Liberty-Eylau’s appeared highly motivated Friday afternoon when former Leopard basketball coach Stasik Vaughn returned to the Rader Dome as New Boston’s head coach.
The Leopards (13-7) roared out to a 20-11 lead in the first quarter behind the outside shooting of junior Damian Henderson on their way to a 70-40 victory over the Lions.
Post Beandre Wafer had the hot hand in the second quarter. Wafer poured in eight of his game-high 14 points during those eight minutes. L-E led the Lions 35-18 at intermission.
Motivated Leopards explode in third quarter
L-E blew the game open in the third quarter. Kentraile Atkins scored seven of his 11 points as the Leopards built a 59-28 cushion. Takylan Hampton buried a couple of 3-pointers for the host team, finishing with 13 points.
The Lions did an outstanding defensive job on L-E’s 6-5 postman Javon Hunter. Hunter got in early foul trouble, and only scored four points. He entered the game averaging a double-double.
Jamin Powell was the only New Boston (9-9) player scoring in double digits with 12 points. Tre Lewis had five points in the first quarter, and four in the fourth for nine.
Liberty-Eylau will be back in action Tuesday at Texas High.
