
DALLAS – Mi’lan Francis poured in 23 points Monday night, and Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s women beat Dallas Christian College, 70-64.
The Eagles dominated the glass against the even smaller Dallas school, 50-36. Naomi Tekleab pulled down 14 rebounds and contributed 12 points. Francis grabbed 9 caroms.
Texas A&M-Texarkana (3-12, 0-3) also got outstanding bench support from Taylor Howell and Brooke Cephus. The two combined for 28 points and eight 3-pointers. Cephus scored 15 points, all on treys.
Dallas Christian led at intermission
The visiting Eagles led 14-11 after the first quarter. Dallas Christian got hot in the second 10 minutes, and took a 29-25 lead at intermission. Shabaria Walter and Patrickia Daily paced the host squad with 23 and 15 points, respectively.
TAMU-T regained control with a 26 point outburst in the third quarter. The Eagles outscored Dallas 45-35 in the final half.
The Eagles return to Red River Athletic Conference play at home Thursday against University of the Southwest (N.M.).
There is currently a four-way tie for first place at 4-0 in the RRAC. LSU-Shreveport, Our Lady of the Lake, Huston-Tillotson and LSU-Alexandria share the early lead.
In the men’s standings there is a three-way deadlock at 4-0 between LSU-Shreveport, LSU-Alexandria and Huston-Tillotson. The University of the Southwest is 2-1.
