Arrest made in aggravated assault that left woman in critical condition

TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas Police Department made an arrest of a 19-year-old man in connection with an altercation that left a 21-year-old woman in critical condition.

Police arrested Dontavious Harvey for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury on Friday after officers and paramedics arrived at around 9:30 a.m. to an apartment in the 1600 block of Peach Street and discovered the victim unconscious on the floor.

According to police, Haney and the victim had been in an extended argument throughout the morning. Police say that at some point during the argument, the victim allegedly knocked Haney’s phone out of his hand. According to police, Haney then struck the victim in the face with his fist. The victim collapsed shortly thereafter, and Haney called 911 once he realized she was not breathing, police say.

Officers arrived on the scene and found Haney performing CPR on the victim, and officers took over resuscitation attempts until paramedics arrived, police say.

Police say the victim was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center and she sustained life-threatening injuries pertaining to damage to her brain. The victim is currently listed in critical condition, according to police.

The police were able to arrest Haney at the scene, and transported him to the Bi-State Jail. Haney is being held on a $100,000 bond.
