TEXARKANA – The Texarkana Texas Police Department arrested Jkerrien Finely as a suspect in the Jan. 24 shooting that occurred in the 2300 block of Spruce Street.
According to police, one man suffered non-life threatening injuries from the gunshot wounds and was released from the hospital earlier in the week.
Finley, 24, is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading detention, and possession of marijuana (more than five but less than 50 pounds). The total bond for Finley is $155,000. However, Finley continues to be detained without bond, police say, due to parole violation warrant.
Texarkana Texas police arrived at the scene on Spruce Street shortly before 11:00 a.m. Friday to find a 32-year-old man lying in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. According to police, upon the officers’ arrival, a black male was observed running from the scene, carrying a bag, and also possessing what appeared to be a pistol in his hands.
Police say the officers chased after the suspect into the wooded area northwest of the residence but lost sight of him. A perimeter was established and a K-9 unit assisted with the search. Finley was not located, police say, but officers discovered the gun and the bag, which contained what police called “a large amount” of marijuana.
According to police, the Finley and the victim shot at each other inside the residence. TTPD detective James Dean identified Finley as the shooter based on information from the victim and the officers who pursued him into the woods.
Police arrested Finley without incident after a warrant was issued Tuesday, and Finley has been held at the Bi-State Jail since.
