Lyon College spoils Eagles’ perfect record in softball

Lyon College beat Texas A&M-Texarkana's softball team Saturday, 2-1. It was the Eagles' first setback after winning their first three games. Texarkana won Friday's games, 3-0 and 11-10.

Lyon College’s Shyanne Pedroza spoiled Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s perfect record Saturday at Spring Lake Park.

Pedroza scattered five hits, walking two and striking out three to lead the small Arkansas school past the Eagles’ softball team, 2-1. The winners scored single runs in the first and fifth innings.

Cormier not perfect, but pitched well

The Eagles’ first loss of the 2020 season spoiled a brilliant pitching performance by Dorrie Cormier. She only allowed four hits, walking two and striking out six.

Morgan Bullock doubled home Texarkana’s only run in the top of the first. The Eagles were the visiting team in this round robin event. Katelyn Slamer singled and scored for the locals.

Sterling College got off to an early 1-0 lead in Saturday’s opener against the Eagles. TAMU-T (3-1) scored all the runs it would need on a three-run homer by Jaden Lance.

Jordyn Logan drove in a run with a double and single, while Erika Richardson scored twice on a double and single.

Sierrah Kupihea got her first pitching win. She tossed the first five innings, and allowed only two hits. She did walk six and strike out three. Lauryn Henson earned a save, pitching the final two frames with two strikeouts.

TAMU-T plays at Texas Wesleyan next Friday.
