COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A two home run night by Zach DeLoach and a school-record strikeout performance by the pitching staff powered the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies to a 12-3 win against the Army West Point Black Knights Friday evening on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

Paced by Asa Lacy’s career-high 14 strikeouts, the pitching staff recorded 22 strikeouts on the night, marking their fourth 10-plus strikeout performance of the season. The tally was most strikeouts in game in school history, topping a one-man 21-strikeout performance by Jeff Granger on April 2, 1993 against Lubbock Christian.

Lacy (2-0) earned the win,  yielding one run on four hits and one walk over 14 innings. In relief, Mason Ornelas pitched 1.1 perfect innings, striking out all four batters faced. Chris Weber also fanned four, including one to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with the Aggies’ nursing a 4-1 lead.

The Aggies trailed for the first time this season when the Black Knights plated a run in the top of the first. The Aggies didn’t take long to answer, plating four in the bottom of the first. Zeros went up on the board until the bottom of the sixth when the Aggies scored five more, followed by one in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Offensively, DeLoach and Hunter Coleman led the Aggies. DeLoach’s two dingers accounted for five RBI. Coleman batted 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Six other Aggies recorded a hit and the offense as a whole recorded their fifth double-digit hitting performance of the season.

The Aggies kept the winning streak alive, improving to 6-0, while the Black Knights drop to 1-3.

B6 | Ray Alejo laced a triple down the rightfield line. The Aggies loaded the bags on a Mikey Hoehner walk and a Trevor Werner intentional walk.
