NEW BOSTON, Texas – Queen City was arguably the biggest winner Thursday at the McDonald’s New Boston Baseball Classic.
It wasn’t because the Bulldogs beat Foreman, 17-1.
“This win is really big for us,” said Queen City’s first-year coach Will Powell, a Pleasant Grove graduate. “We’re fairly young in a couple of spots, and got off to a slow start. We got a lot of at-bats today, came together as a team, and got a win under our belt. This helps us move forward.”

Queen City wins in McDonald’s Classic
Tristan Mayfield was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs (2-5). In five innings he scattered three hits, walked two and struck out six. Justin Lance led Queen City at the plate with a double, single and three RBI. Peyton Seagraves and Jay Durand had the Bulldogs’ hits.
Queen City scored 14 runs in the second inning, parading 20 batters to the plate.
In other action Thursday host New Boston split its two games. Paris Chisum also split, while Foreman, Ark., lost twice.

Chisum ace strikes out 10 Lions
Chisum ace Levi Weems tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 6-3 win over the Lions. Weems contributed a double and two singles at the plate. Kaleb Ball, Evan Wood and Layn Hall had two hits each.
Catcher Brian Reid had a two-run single for New Boston. Trent Graham had the Lions’ other hit. Tyler Strain was the losing pitcher.
New Boston scored four runs in the first inning, more than enough for Kyle Atkinson, who tossed a no-hitter in a 7-0 win over Foreman. Atkinson did walk five and strike out eight. Matt Dunn homered for the Lions, with Reid and Darius Coats contributing run-scoring hits.
Bears run-rule Paris Chisum
DeKalb run-ruled Chisum in five innings, 11-1. Travis Daniel pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven. Kole Donley led the Bears at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Hall was the losing pitcher for Chisum.
The McDonald’s Classic is scheduled to continue Friday, but there is a threat of heavy rain for Bowie County.
Thursday’s games were aired by ESPN Texarkana, 94.1 FM. Caleb Baker did the play-by-play in all games.
