TEXARKANA — The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 49-year-old male suspect involved in a fatal stabbing Tuesday morning.
The sheriff’s office arrested Elgin Hollingsworth Tuesday morning after the suspect stabbed his son, Demoryea Hollingsworth, after an altercation.
According to the sheriff’s office via Elgin’s cooperation with investigators, Demoryea claimed there was money missing from his wallet, and he accused Elgin, who was his father, of taking it. The sheriff’s office via Elgin says that the two scuffled over the accusation, and Elgin eventually grabbed a knife and swung it at Demoryea, hitting him in the abdomen.
Demoryea collapsed to the floor, and Elgin immediately called 911 for an ambulance, according to the sheriff’s office.
Prior to Life Net’s arrival to the residence, Elgin had left the scene prior to sheriff’s deputies arriving, who were dispatched at approximately 8:11 a.m. to the 200 block of Golden Rule Road in Texarkana. Demoryea was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital and died of his stab wound.
Texarkana Texas police officers stopped and detained Elgin a short distance from the homicide scene. Elgin was taken into custody by Bowie County deputies and taken to the Bi-State Jail. Elgin is charged with murder and his bond has not been set.
