TEXARKANA — A free COVID-19 testing operation will be available on Friday, May 15 at the old Excel ER next to the Hopkins Ice House at 4102 Gibson Lane in Texarkana.
Anyone experiencing fever and/or chills, cough, fatigue, body aches or muscle or joint pain, shortness of breath, sore throat, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nasal congestion, loss of taste and/or smell is invited to be screened at no cost.
Residents should register to be tested at http://txcovidtest.org or by calling 512-883-2400 after Wednesday.
According to the Bowie County emergency operations center, there are a total of 111 positive COVID-19 cases in the county with 73 recoveries and 11 related deaths. In nearby Cass County, there have been a total of 20 cases with 16 recovered.
“As the state begins the process of opening back up, we still have sick people in our community, and we still need more testing to understand where the hot spots for this virus might be and to know how to move forward from here,” Texarkana Texas Emergency Management Director and Fire Chief Eric Schlotter said. “This testing opportunity provided by the state is a great way for us to offer testing to our residents at no cost, and provide a lot of tests efficiently and quickly. I hope Bowie County will take advantage of it.”
