Texarkana announces plans to reopen parks

TEXARKANA — The cities of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Texarkana, Texas, announced Thursday their plans to reopen their respective parks on Friday, May 22.

The first phase of reopening on Friday includes the playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and the skate park.

On Tuesday, May 26, the Southwest Center will reopen with the hours of operation being 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. the meeting rooms, classes, and gym will be limited to 10 people per session.

The Southwest Center asks that people call ahead at 903-798-3978 to register for classes and court times to ensure the availability. Face coverings are recommended for all visitors entering the Southwest Center.

On Monday, June 1, Texas-side youth sports can hold practices at city ballfields with limited space available. The only spectators allowed will be one parent or guardian per participant. Reservations for the fields will begin on May 26, and interested parties are asked to call 903-824-6991.

Arkansas-side no-contact youth sports can resume practice and competition with social distancing practiced and shared equipment requiring disinfecting.

On June 15, Texas-side youth sports can start to hold games or similar competitions with or without spectators. Spectators must remain at least six feet apart.

Until further notice, the Rotary Splash Pad, the Collins Senior Center, and all parks restrooms and pavilions will remain closed.
