Arkansas State Police investigating shooting death of Alexander police officer

The Arkansas State Police says they are investigating the shooting death of an Alexander Police Department officer that occurred on Wednesday evening.

Police say that 36-year-old Scott Hutton was found by Saline County Sheriff’s deputies at approximately 7:12 p.m. with a gunshot wound and lying outside the residence at 15458 Evergreen in Alexander.

According to police, measures were undertaken by an Alexander Police officer to save Hutton, who was later transported to a Little Rock hospital and pronounced dead. Hutton’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death.

Police say that the two people at the residence at the time of the shooting, including an Alexander Police officer, have been questioned by special agents of the Arkansas State Police criminal investigation division.

The state police are investigating the incident and will present their findings to the Saline County prosecuting attorney’s office. The prosecuting attorney will determine whether any criminal charge should be filed or if the shooting was accidental.
