State Police investigating Sharp County shooting

The Arkansas State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting on Wednesday evening that involved a suspect and Sharp County area law enforcement.

Police say that 28-year-old Jerod White of Ash Flat fired his run at a Hardy Police Department officer at around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. The officer was not injured, but retreated from the area to request additional law enforcement.

According to police, White retreated inside of a camper trailer on the property at 3440 Highway 62/412. Law enforcement contacted White by phone and attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender, police say.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m., White left the trailer brandishing a gun and fired a second time at officers, police say. Sharp County deputies, a Hardy police officer, and a Highland police officer returned fire and wounded White. White was then airlifted to an area hospital, and his condition is being reported as stable. None of the law enforcement officers were injured.

Special agents of the Arkansas State Police criminal investigation division are conducting the investigation. After the investigation is completed, the findings will be presented to the Sharp County prosecuting attorney, who will then make a determination as to whether the use of deadly force by the officers involved was consistent with state law.
