Native Arkansan River Hunt will toe the mound Tuesday when the Texarkana Twins open their 2020 Texas Collegiate League season against the Amarillo Sod Dogs at George Dobson Field.
Texarkana’s opener is two dollar drink night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Hunt is a hard-throwing righthander, and a red-shirt junior at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. He won three games for the Boll Weevils earlier this year in a short season, striking out 26 in 20 innings.
Sod Dogs one of four division rivals
First-year manager Brandon Schmidt is eager to start play this summer. The Twins will play a 30-game regular season in the TCL. The league is divided into two five-team divisions this year. Texarkana will compete in the North Division with Tulsa, Frisco and two teams from Amarillo.
“We’ve got a bunch of dirtbags on this team,” said Schmidt. “That just means we’re going to get down in the dirt and play hard-nose baseball for these great fans in Texarkana. We’ve got a lot of strong arms this summer, and some very impressive bats.”
The South Division features the defending champion Brazos Valley Bombers, Victoria, Arcadiana, San Antonio, and Round Rock.
In other TCL action Tuesday Frisco plays at Tulsa, Victoria visits Arcadiana, and San Antonio is at Amarillo.
