COVID-19 cases on the rise in Texas

TEXARKANA — The number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state of Texas is on the rise.

The state’s health department reported 8,076 new cases with 57 new fatalities. The total in Texas is now 168,062 cases, 2,481 deaths, and 87,556 recoveries.

The Bowie County emergency operations center reported nine new positive cases and one new fatality. The total for Bowie County is now 286 positive cases with 119 recoveries and 17 deaths. Nearby Cass County had 47 cases with 38 recoveries and two deaths.

The emergency operations center says they are still conducting contact tracing on positive cases. The EOC asks people who have tested positive or are a healthcare provider that conducts COVID-19 testing to notify the local health authority at 903-255-5560.

Governor Greg Abbott still has portions of the state’s Open Texas plan rolled back. Here is a breakdown of what Governor Abbott’s order has done:

  • Reduced dine-in restaurant capacities back to 50%
  • Closed bars, except for drive-thru, pickup or delivery options
  • Prohibited outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people unless approved by the mayor of a city or the county judge for an unincorporated area
  • Closeed rafting and tubing services, including the rental of rafts or tubes
