AMARILLO, Texas – Texarkana’s pitching appears to have no answers to slowing down the Amarillo Sod Dogs’ hot bats.
The Sod Dogs (5-2) took over first place in the Texas Collegiate League’s North Division Tuesday with another easy win over the Twins, 21-3.
Amarillo scored four runs in the first inning, which was enough for its fourth straight win over Texarkana (1-6).
Enrique Porchas led the Sod Dogs’ offensive fireworks with two home runs. He scored twice and drove in six runs. Matthew Garcia led Amarillo’s 17-hit assault against six Twins pitchers with four hits and three RBI. Kurtis Byrne had two singles, scored four runs and drove in three more.
Jordan Eglite was the winning pitcher in relief.
Welch homers against Sod Dogs
The Twins banged out 13 hits, but stranded far too many runners. Charlie Welch hit his second homer of the summer, and also contributed a single. Austin Colon had a triple and single, while Cameron Dollar added a double and single. Catcher Ricardo Leonett contributed two singles.
Once again Texarkana pitchers had trouble finding the strike zone, yielding 10 free passes. Starter Jordan Seay was the losing pitcher, allowing eight earned runs before leaving with nobody out in the second.
In other TCL play Tuesday the Amarillo Sod Squad won a 12-inning thriller over Tulsa, 10-8. Round Rock routed Victoria, 19-3; and San Antonio’s game with Arcadiana was postponed by rain.
The Twins try again Wednesday night in Amarillo.
