Alexander police officer charged in shooting death of fellow officer

The Arkansas State Police has arrested an Alexander Police Department officer in connection to the shooting death of a fellow officer in the department.

Special agents of the state police arrested 33-year-old Calvin Salyers of Alexander on Wednesday after he surrendered. Salyers was formally served with an arrest warrant for manslaughter, which is a class C felony.

According to police, Saline County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 15458 Evergreen in Alexander on the evening of June 3, where they found 36-year-old Scott Hutton of Bryant wounded by a gunshot and lying outside the residence. Police say life-saving measures were performed on Hutton. According to police, Hutton was transported to a Little Rock hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two other individuals were at the residence and questioned by state police special agents, and one of the individuals questioned was Salyers.

The Alexander Police Department contacted the state police soon after the shooting and requested special agents conduct an investigation, which included transporting Hutton’s body to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. After completion of the investigation, the case file was presented to the Saline County prosecuting attorney, who made the decision to criminally charge Salyers.

Salyers bond was set at $15,000 by a Saline County judge.
