AMARILLO, Texas – Texarkana wasted a six-run second inning Saturday as the Amarillo Sod Squad rallied to beat the Twins, 14-8.
The Twins (2-9) trailed 3-0 in the first after two hit batsman and a home run by Lyle Miller-Green.
Casey Rother singled with one out to ignite the Twins big second inning. Zach Slunder reached on an infield error. Jake Slunder followed with a single to load the bases. Rother scored on Jay French’s single. Charlie Welch then cleared the bases with a double. Reed Spenrath made it 5-3 with a triple, and he scored on Tyler Trovinger’s single.
Texarkana built a 7-3 cushion in the third. Roth was safe on an infield error. He raced to third on Jake Slunder’s single. Roth then scored when French hit into a fielder’s choice.
Rosario’s homer rallies Sod Squad
The Sod Squad tied the game in the fifth with four runs. A home run by Mike Rosario made it 7-7.
Amarillo (5-3) captured the lead for good with two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Jake Slunder tripled in the eighth, scoring on Ricardo Leonatt’s sacrifice fly to center.
The Sod Squad added three insurance runs in the ninth. Amarillo was batting first, because Texarkana is having to play all of its games on the road with Spring Lake Park closed in Texarkana.
Kansas State’s Kamron Willman and Texas Tech’s Max Marusak led the winners at the plate with three hits each. David Marcano drove in four runs with two hits.
Jake Slunder and Trovinger led the Twins with three hits each. Welch and Spenrath had two hits each.
Davis Rogers of East Central Oklahoma was the losing pitcher in relief, while Jack Stroud of Florida Atlantic was the winner.
In other TCL games Saturday the Sod Dogs edged Frisco, 5-4. San Antonio routed Round Rock, 15-3. Brazos Valley defeated Arcadiana, 6-2, and Victoria blanked Tulsa, 2-0.
