Special agents of the Arkansas State Police criminal investigation division arrested two suspects in connection with an early Friday morning shooting in Drew County that killed a man and injured his mother.

27-year-old Mario Milton and 24-year-old Alicia King, both of Dermott, were arrested as suspects involved in the investigation.

Milton has been charged with first degree murder of 49-year-old Johnny Hayes and first degree battery of 64-year-old Carolyn Hayes. King has been charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.

The Dermott Police Department assisted the criminal investigation division special agents in the arrest. Special agents worked with Dermott police, the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, and the Chicot County Sheriff’s Office.

Milton and King were jailed in Chicot County and are scheduled for their first appearance hearing Monday.

On Friday morning after 12:20 a.m., the Drew County Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies to 925 Skipper Bridge Road, where law enforcement had earlier quelled a disturbance approximately 40 minutes beforehand. When deputies arrived to the residence a second time, law enforcement says the elder Hayes was in the front yard wounded while the younger Hayes was non-responsive. The son was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where investigators are working on a cause and manner of death, which will be determined at a later date.
