AMARILLO, Texas – Texarkana put it all together Sunday in scoring its first win over the Amarillo Sod Squad, 9-3.
Seminole State’s Brett Russell replaced starter Josh Salinas in the third inning. He hurled four hitless and scoreless innings. The Twins led 2-0 going into the seventh inning.
The Sod Squad (5-4) would score single runs in the final three innings against Texarkana’s bullpen. That wasn’t nearly enough with the Twins exploding for four runs in their half of the seventh, and three more in the eighth.
Reed Spenrath and Tyler Trovinger led Texarkana at the plate with three hits each. Charlie Welch had two hits and scored twice. Jay French drove in two runs with a double and single. Jake Slunder had two hits and scored twice. Ricardo Leonett and Austin Colon both drove in a run.
Sod Squad never led Sunday
The Twins (3-9) scored in the second off losing pitcher Jake Sunddreth. Trovinger doubled with one out, scoring seconds later on a single by Austin Colon.
Texarkana made it 2-0 in the fourth inning. Welch led off with single. Spenrath followed with a single, and two fielder’s choices scored Welch.
Lyle Miller-Green got the Sod Squad on the scoreboard with a leadoff triple in the seventh. He would eventually score on a fielder’s choice. Terrence Spurlin and Kyle Hogwood drove in Amarillo’s final two runs.
The Twins have now played six consecutive days in Amarillo. They will remain in Amarillo with a day off Monday, and then play the Sod Squad three more games.
In other TLC action Sunday, Frisco beat the Amarillo Sod Dogs, 6-3. Tulsa outlasted Victoria, 8-5. Arcadiana won over Brazos Valley, 4-1. San Antonio defeated Round Rock, 6-1.
