Coronavirus cases jump to 511 in Bowie County

TEXAKANA — The Bowie County emergency operations center reports 18 new cases of coronavirus and one new fatality.

There are currently 254 active cases being traced in the county. Since the pandemic began, there have been 511 positive cases with 31 deaths.

The emergency operations center is still contacting tracing on positive cases. Anyone who has tested positive, or any healthcare provider that conducts COVID-19 testing, should notify the local health authority at 903-255-5560.

Nearby Cass County has 92 total cases since the pandemic began with 50 recoveries, 40 active cases, and two deaths.

The city of Texarkana, Texas, has closed the Southwest Center until further notice as results from a COVID-19 test are pending. An employee tested positive, and thus the entire staff is being tested.

Texarkana Senior Services will keep distributing free hot meals to seniors each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the back of the Southwest Center in the turnaround driveway.

Two meals are given away on Mondays and Wednesdays, one hot meal and one frozen, to help with food on the days services aren’t offered.
