Bowie County tops 40 COVID-19 fatalities

TEXAKANA — The Bowie County emergency operations center reports there have been 40 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 769 positive cases with 308 recoveries. The death rate is 0.04% of the county’s population and represents 5.2% of the COVID-19 outcomes since the pandemic began. 40.1% of the positive COVID-19 cases in Bowie County have resulted in recoveries.

The emergency operations center says there are currently 421 cases being traced in the county. Anyone who has tested positive or any healthcare provider that administers such testing should notify the local health authority at 903-255-5560.

The free COVID-19 testing has been extended by another week at the Bowie-Texarkana health department at 903 West 12th Street in Texarkana. The free testing site is open Monday, Aug. 10 through Saturday, Aug. 15 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. No symptoms are required to get tested.
