TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Arkansas School District (TASD) reports a student tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.

According to the school district, they have not received any other reports of other students or staff members who have COVID-19.

TASD would not say whether the student was experiencing symptoms or how a positive diagnosis was rendered for the student, nor was any information given on the age of the student.

The district’s COVID-19 response team works with the Arkansas Department of Health in determining onsite response levels when a case is confirmed. The response team is monitoring the situation and will give updates to the public as more information is gathered.

Immediate actions were taken by the school district in accordance with guidance from the state’s department of health, which included cancelling activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and notifying people who may have been in close contact with the student who tested positive.

People should call their medical providers to report their illnesses prior to seeking care at a clinic, doctor’s office, or hospital.
