Hawks Moral Victory Argyle

Argyle defeated Pleasant Grove 52-41 Friday night at PG Hawks Stadium in Texarkana, Tx. However, the Hawks earned a moral victory by never quitting until the final gun.

The Eagles (Argyle) scored on their first offensive play when senior quarterback CJ Rogers connected with Hayden Stewart on a 65 yard touchdown pass.  Argyle extended their lead to 14-0 with 7:09 remaining in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Rogers to tight end Jasper Lott.

The Hawks scored 14 unanswered points in the first half to tied the game

Pleasant Grove then scored 14 unanswered points to tie the game at 14 a piece with 2:47 remaining in the half. The Hawks first touchdown was a 3 yard run for pay dirt by Nick Martin. Martin carried the ball 11 times for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pleasant Grove tied the game with 2:47 remaining in the half on a 35-yard touchdown scamper by speedster Logan Johnson. Johnson finished with 14 carries, 173 yards and 2 scores was the 94.1 FM ESPN Exceed Urgent Care Player of the game.

Argyle scored with 46 seconds left in the second quarter on a 9-yard run by fullback Knox Scoggins. The Scoggins TD made the halftime score 21-14 Argyle.

The second half was hard hitting. Many Hawks players played injured. Josh Gibson, Hawks head coach was emotional after the game calling some of his players Rock Stars. Hawks Quarterback Jalen Woodside threw 2 touchdown passes in the game playing with an injured wrist on his non throwing arm. Woooside hit  Landon Jackson on a 55 yard touch down pass and Alex Galvan on a 22 yard scoring throw. PG’s Zach Hughes had 2 receptions for 69 yards.

Woodside finished the game 146 yards passing, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

Pleasant Grove outscored Argyle in the final quarter and a half

The Hawks trailed 42-20 in the 3rd quarter but they outscored 21-10 in the final quarter and a half.

“The kids fought together,” Josh Gibson, Pleasant Grove head football coach said. “I’m proud of that fight.

Pleasant Grove (1-1) will travel to Paris next Friday. Hawks football games are broadcasted live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana.

Argyle (2-0) will host Celina.
