TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Arkansas School District (TASD) announced a student at Trice Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19.

TASD says the student was last at Trice on Sept. 9. The student will not return to school, the district says, for at least 10 days. Classes will resume Thursday morning.

The school district says that classroom, PE, and cafeteria seating charts were maintained to help determine individuals who may have been in close contact in the event of a positive COVID-19 case.

According to the school district, individuals determined to be close contacts will receive phone calls or emails from the district’s point of contact as well as the Arkansas Department of Health.

The district’s established protocols allow for the thorough disinfection of all areas of the building that the positive individual used in prior days. The district is also in contact with the state’s department of health to take steps necessary to protect the health of students and staff.

The district says they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
