PARIS, Texas – A good Paris football team gained only 25 total yards Friday night at Wildcat Stadium against Pleasant Grove.
The Hawks rebounded from last week’s disappointing loss to Argyle in style with a 35-7 win over Paris.
Paris had four yards on the ground against the Hawks, while junior quarterback Luke Hohenberger completed 1 of 2 passes for 21 yards. That one completion was a 21-yard scoring strike to Gi’taeus Young in the third quarter.
Each team had four possessions in the first half. The Wildcats failed to get a first down in the half, while the Hawks scored touchdowns on their first three possessions. Pleasant Grove (2-1) built a 21-0 cushion in the first half.
Paris offense silent in second half
Logan Johnson scored the game’s first points on a 17-yard run with 3:42 left in the first quarter. Enrique Rios kicked the first of his five PATs.
Quarterback Jalen Woodside plunged over from a yard in the second quarter to make it 14-0. Woodside then teamed up with all-American Landon Jackson on a 25-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 left in the half.
That lead grew to 28-0 midway into the third quarter on a 17-yard scoring run by Nick Martin. Hohenberger’s TD pass made it 28-7.
Backup Trent Kelley tallied the Hawks final touchdown on a 4-yard run with 1:34 left in the game.
Johnson led the Hawks’ ground game with 129 yards on 18 carries. Martin finished with 90 yards on 13 carries. Hayden Koller had 60 yards on 12 totes, while Kelley rushed for 50 yards on 12 carries.
Pleasant Grove travels to Carthage next Friday to play Silsbee.
