TEXARKANA — The Complete Count Committee is hosting a “Respond to the Census” event on Sept. 19 in an effort to increase the Texarkana area’s response to the U.S. Census.
The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at multiple locations around Texarkana with walk-through and drive-through options available.
Each location has at least one certified census taker and a member of the joint committee to help residents complete the census and answer questions.
Social distancing and masks will be required. There will be giveaways for those that come out to the event and respond to the census. The committee says residents can bring their census number and respond, or if thy don’t have it, they can respond with their home address.

According to the City of Texarkana, Texas, the census self-response rate is at 57.8%, which is five percent lower than the final rate for 2010. The committee hopes to reach the 43 percent of people who have not yet responded.
The census is necessary because it will determine the amount of federal funding the Texarkana area receives over the next 10 years. An undercount could result in less funds for healthcare, education, school nutrition, fire department funding, roads, housing, infrastructure, and a lot more.
