Second-ranked Hawks explode late to humble Silsbee, 46-14

CARTHAGE, Texas – Second-ranked Pleasant Grove got a wakeup call in the third quarter when Silsbee quarterback Raymond Foster scored to rally the Tigers within six points.

The Hawks scored five unanswered touchdowns after Foster’s score en route to a 46-14 victory.

Junior quarterback Jalen Woodside put on an aerial show in the first three quarters. He helped Pleasant Grove (3-1) build a 13-0 first half advantage on a 28-yard touchdown pass to senior Landon Jackson, and 20-yard scoring pass to Corbin Shine.

Woodside teamed up with Hayden Koller for an 84-yard touchdown pass 81 seconds after Foster’s TD. Less than two minutes later Nick Martin scored on a 22-yard run. Woodside got in on the scoring act with a 2-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Silsbee scored in final seconds

Logan Johnson added two touchdowns in the final six minutes of the game with runs of 19 and 8 yards.

Silsbee scored its final touchdown against Pleasant Grove reserves with 1:21 left. Victor Toledo hauled in a 32-yard scoring pass from Mason Brisbane.

Woodside finished the game 9 of 19 for 229 yards. Johnson led the Hawks’ wing-t running game with 137 yards on 12 carries. Imahd Hicks added 61 yards on 14 carries, and Martin gained 44 on seven totes.

Pleasant Grove is off next week. The Hawks host top-ranked Carthage in two weeks.
