Crossing guard hit near Texas High School

TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas Police Department says a crossing guard was struck Monday morning while directing traffic at Texas High School.

Police say that at 8:21 on the morning of Sept. 21, a Ford picking driving southbound on Summerhill Road had moved into the turn lane to prepare to make a left turn into the Summerhill Square parking lot. According to police, the 76-year-old male driver struck the crossing guard who was working in the turn lane.

The 68-year-old crossing guard was transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital and is currently in critical condition, police say.

Police say that traffic officers are still investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Texarkana Texas police at 903-798-3116.
