Liberty-Eylau's District 8-4A Division II showdown with Spring Hill at Harris Field has been canceled because of health issues.

Liberty-Eylau’s home game with Spring Hill Friday night has been canceled.

One week into the District 8-4A Division II schedule both teams were hoping to play. The Leopards (4-2, 1-0) are currently tied for first place. An L-E victory this week would have put Spring Hill in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

Defending state champion Pleasant Grove and Gilmer remain huge favorites to finish 1-2 in the district race. North Lamar is down in 2020, leaving L-E, Spring Hill and Pittsburg likely fighting for the final two playoff spots.

Seeding for the playoffs could be complicated should the Leopards and Spring Hill finish the regular season tied in district. The game was canceled Thursday afternoon.

Hawks should roll over North Lamar

Pleasant Grove is hosting North Lamar Friday. Head coach Josh Gibson could be clearing his bench before halftime. If that happen the Hawks will win by six touchdowns. The feeling here is that it won’t be that close. Pleasant Grove wins, 60-0.

Down in Cass County Atlanta, Queen City and Linden-Kildare all find themselves underdogs.

Atlanta (1-6, 1-1) is playing a hot Tatum squad. A loss would probably eliminate the Rabbs from the championship race, but not the postseason. Taking the Eagles, 28-14.

Queen City needs one more win for a winning season, and possibly a playoff berth. Don’t see that happening this week against the unbeaten Waskom Wildcats. Waskom wins, 38-13.

There’s a similar scenario at L-K where the Tigers host Beckville. L-K is improving each week, but expect the Tigers to fall short Friday, 27-18.

Daingerfield may be short on numbers, but has too many athletes for Redwater. Anticipating a big win for the Blue Tigers over the Dragons, 34-12.

Records can be deceiving this week

Both Hooks and Paul Pewitt are playing teams with better records. Throw out those records because the Hornets will survive Paris Chisum, 21-20. The Brahmas edge a stubborn DeKalb, 16-14.

Cumby (1-1) hasn’t played much, or practiced a lot because of the pandemic. It’s a good opportunity for Maud to score its first win of 2020, 20-14.

Look for another close contest when Boles invades Simms, Texas. James Bowie climbs over the .500 mark with a 28-21 victory.

Unbeaten Texas High and Arkansas High are off this week. The Tigers play Mount Pleasant next week. The Razorbacks host Hot Springs in a game that could determine the 5A South championship.
