TEXARKANA — The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of an Arkansas Department of Corrections inmate.
According to the sheriff’s office, two ADC inmates were involved in an altercation that led to the death of one of the inmates at the Bowie County Annex Jail located at 105 West Front Street in Texarkana, Texas.
The sheriff’s office says that during the early morning hours of Oct. 9, ADC inmate Randy Baker severely beat ADC inmate Ricky Daffron.
The altercation began as a verbal disagreement until Daffrod allegedly spit on Baker. During the physical confrontation, Baker was able to render Daffron defenseless and proceeded to hit and kick him, the sheriff’s office says.
When the fight was broken up, Daffrod was transported to Wadley Hospital for treatment. It was discovered Daffrod had a broken orbital socket, a brain bleed, and was completely unresponsive. Daffron was in ICU until Oct. 28 when he passed away.
Daffron’s body has been sent off for an autopsy.
Baker has been transferred to an ADC lockdown facility.
