Paul Pewitt controls opening round of playoffs, 30-27

“Play and advance” — That’s the motto in Texas High School Football playoffs and Paul Pewitt Deiontary Hill ensured the Brahmas would do just that over the Harmony Eagles, 30-27.

Hill, the area’s leading rusher, scored 3 touchdowns and had 226 on 22 carries as the Bulls outlasted a talented Harmony team.

The Eagles took the opening kickoff and marched down the field to take a 7-0 lead. Pewitt fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Harmony takes advantage of the turnover and score again to make the score 14-0 Eagles.

Hill scores the first of his 3 touchdowns to cut the lead to 14-7. The Bulls defense got a turnover and once again Hill finished the drive out on a 6 yard plunge a Vissering extra point ties the score at 14-14.

Harmony scored right before the half to take a 21-14 lead.

The Eagles score on their first offense of series to go up 27-14 when Tavion Brown picked up the blocked PAT and returned it 100 yards for 2 points to make the score 27-16.

There were five minutes left in the bi-district playoff game and the Bulls needed to make a big play. Enter Eric Morris, who managed to intercept a Harmony and return it for a touchdown, though the run after failed. Harmony taook the kickoff and drive to the Bulls 30 yard line when Eric Morris maked a open field tackle on fourth-and-5 to give the Bulls the ball back with 3 minutes left.

After converting on two fourth down and facing another at Harmony’s 45 Hill went 45 yards over the left side for his 3rd and final score and Hill ran the 2 point conversion in for a 30-27 Bulls victory.

Paul Pewitt will play Newton next week with time and place to be determined.
