TWU reports progress in recovering from Dec. 2020 cyber incident

TEXARKANA – Texarkana Water Utilities (TWU) says they are recovering from a cyber incident on Dec. 6, 2020, and report “good progress” in the matter.

The water utility says that they are able to process credit/debit card payments from customers again. Furthermore, TWU has a new website at https://twu.txkusa.org. The functionality of the website is still limited, but customers will be able to login and make payments using their credit or debit cards.

TWU says they are currently in the process of applying payments to accounts, and notes that previous account balances may display incorrectly until the process is complete.

Customers can use www.payments.txkusa.org to make a payment by clicking on the “Pay My Bill” button, entering their name and password in the payment portal. Customers are still encouraged to make an estimated payment until bills can be processed.

Payments can also still be sent by mail, processed at the drive thru window, deposited in the dropbox in the alley, or bill pay can also be used with a customer’s bank. Payments can be made by either cash, check, money order, or bank checks.

Auto draft is not occurring at the moment, according to TWU. There were no processed auto draft payments for December or January, which means that when the billing process is fixed, those customers could be charged for two months, or however many payments were missed. TWU advises customers to be aware of this issue and to make proper arrangements to avoid any overdraft fees.

The water utility service says that no shut off notices, late fees, or disconnections will occur at this time.
