Eagles improve to 7-5 with a pair of lopsided wins after big day at the plate


POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Texas A&M-Texarkana enjoyed a big day at the plate Tuesday in sweeping Evangel College and College of the Ozarks.

The Eagles (7-5) banged out 22 total hits, and played errorless ball in both games to rout the Crusaders, 15-4, and the Bobcats, 13-4. TAMU-T also beat both teams Monday despite committing six errors.

Sean Townsend was the first of three Texarkana pitchers. He got the win with his teammates building an early 10-1 lead.

McGinty enjoys big day at plate

Mateo Martinez led the Eagles’ 12-hit attack with a grand slam. He scored twice and drove in five runs. Chris McGinty added a double and single, with a run scored and three runs batted in. Blake Seagraves contributed a double and single. Dalton Cook drove in all four of Evangel’s runs, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Ozarks led 2-0 going to the third inning. The Eagles scored one, breaking the game open with eight runs in the fourth. Magnolia senior Zac Harrington started and was the winning pitcher for Texarkana. Carter Coats, Jordan Izzo and Tyler Black followed Harrington to the mound. Collin Pyatt was the losing pitcher for the Bobcats.

McGinty’s big day continued against Ozarks with a home run, double and single. He scored and drove in four runs. Angel Mauricio had a homer and single for the winners, while Cole Chambers added a double and single, driving in two runs and scoring two. Jaylan Prince continued his torrid hitting with two singles and two RBIs.

Texas A&M-Texarkana travels to Blue Mountain College in Mississippi for two doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. Blue Mountain’s first 18 games were cancelled or postponed.
