LONGVIEW, Texas — The Pleasant Grove Hawks beat Mount Pleasant Tigers 8-2 at the Springhill Tournament on Thursday. The Hawks are 4-2.
Hawks starting pitcher Nathan Hutcheson pitched 5 innings, allowed 3 hits, stricking out 6 and walking none. Will Taylor pitched 1 inning, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out 2.
Reid Bingham pitched the final inning for PG. He gave up 2 runs, struck out 1 and walked three. Pleasant Grove had 8 hits in the game.
Hawks center fielder Brock Bearden was 2 for 3, JM Long was 1-for-3, Tucker Anderson was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Alex Murphy was 1-for-2, Alex Galvan was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Cason Head was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Travler Coach was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Head also threw out a mount Pleasant Tiger trying to steal second.
“Today was a great day for the team,” Pleasant Grove coach Riley Fincher said. “The guys came out from the first pitch and played the game aggressively. Hutch gave the team a great start on the mound and was dominant through five innings. We did a good job offensively of applying pressure at the plate and on the bases.”
Friday PG plays Wills Point at 2:40 p.m. and Carthage at 5 p.m. Saturday they’ll play Mount Peasant at 2:40 p.m.
