LAFAYETTE, La. — A masterful pitching performance from Johnny Ray and Haylen Green guided TCU to a 5-1 victory over Louisiana on Sunday afternoon. The Horned Frogs led from start to finish as it scored  four in the first and never looked back.

Johnny Ray (1-1) was outstanding in his return to the starting rotation. The right-hander faced just one batter over the minimum in his 5+ innings on the mound. He retired the first nine batters in the game. A lead-off walk in the fourth was erased on a double play ball. In his outing, Ray allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out five.

Haylen Green took over with a runner on in the sixth and quickly got a double play ball. He finished the game for the Frogs, tossing four innings. He allowed an unearned run on three hits, walked one and struck out five to pick up his third save of the season.

TCU opened the scoring with a two out flurry in the first. Brayden Taylor started a string of five straight Horned Frogs to reach base with a walk. After a Zach Humphreys double, Conner Shepherd unloaded on a long home run to right for a 3-0 lead. Phillip Sikes followed with a double and score easily on a Gene Wood base hit to make it a 4-0 ballgame.

The Frog got an all-important insurance run in the eighth. With the bases loaded, Porter Brown beat out a potential double play to drive in Tommy Sacco for a 5-0 lead.

Louisiana’s lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out error.
