GLADEWATER, Texas – Texas High’s young golf team put on a show for the ages Monday and Tuesday at the District 15-5A Golf Tournament at Tempest Golf Club.
The Tigers built a 40-shot advantage in the first round, and cruised to the district crown by 67 strokes behind medalist Thomas Curry. Curry posted identical under par rounds of 69 each day.
“I was worried the boys would come out a little flat during the first round; over the weekend they all played in an ASGA tournament at Texarkana Country Club,” said THS coach Ryan Huntze. “I thought they might be a little tired. That wasn’t the case.

“It was very pleasing to see how they started in the first round. They took advantage of the easiest holes at Tempest to open that big lead.”
After shooting 288 as a team on Monday, Curry and teammate Jack Wilson were the only golfers on the team to match, or better their scores. The Tigers shot 298 in the second round and had a 586 total.
Carter Maneth actually led after the opening round with a 68, following up with a 73 for second medalist. Wilson was fourth in the individual standings with rounds of 76 and 75. Camden Robertson recorded 75 and 85, with John Patterson shooting 77 and 81. Jackson Patterson participated as a medalist, and shot 77 and 81.
Texas High will play next in the Aggieland Match Play Championship on April 13 in College Station.
