LONGVIEW, Texas – In what could only be called a down year, Texas High’s boys finished fifth in the team standings, and the girls third, at the District 15-5A Track & Field Championships at Pine Tree’s Pirate Stadium.
Longview won the boys division with 123 points to edge Pine Tree’s 121. Mount Pleasant followed with 119. Texas High scored 69. The Lady Lobos won with 172 points. Hallsville was second with 113, and the Lady Tigers were third with 101.
Hurdler Caden Miller won Texas High’s only gold medals. Miller won the 110s in 15.275, while capturing the 300s in 40.937.

Evan Likins brought home two silver medals. He was second in the 400 with a time of 52.199. Likins was also second in the 800 in 2:05.797.
Texas High’s boys earned bronze in the 4×400 with a time of 3:37.074. The Tigers were fourth in both the 4×100 (43.931) and the 4×200 (1:32.579).
Like the boys, the Lady Tigers’ only gold came in the two hurdle races. Bobbi Hatchett won the 100 hurdles in 16.214, with Cashlin Gooden third in 16.636. Gooden won the 300s in 47.559.
Mariza Paez captured silver in the shot put with a throw of 33-9 1/2. Teammate Mollie Johnson was third at 33-0. Texas High’s 4×400 won bronze in 4:17.875. Fezeka Barnes was third in the 400 (1:01.214). Paez was fourth in the discus (93-1), while Hatchett was fourth in the triple jump (34-7 1/2).
The Lady Tigers’ 4×200 was fourth in 1:48.604. Barnes placed fourth in the 800 (2:27.996), while Vanessa Perez was fourth in the 200 (26.158).
