Host Pleasant Grove and Liberty-Eylau stand for the playing of the national anthem Tuesday night. The Hawks dealt L-E its first District 15-4A loss.

Liberty-Eylau’s 10-2 setback at Hawks Field Tuesday night to Pleasant Grove was a humbling experience.

The Hawks move within one game in the loss column of the District 15-4A standings. L-E slips to 15-5-2 overall and 7-1 in district. Pleasant Grove improves to 15-5 and 5-2, respectively.

“Tonight was the best all-around game that we have played this season,” said winning coach Riley Fincher. “Blake Jennings did a great job on the mound. The guys did a great job at the plate of attacking and driving in runs. Our defense played nearly flawless.

“We have to come back tomorrow and continue to improve for the next game. It was a great overall team win.”

Blake Jennings pitched six strong innings for the win, scattering three hits, walking five and striking out two. Bellatti was hit hard. In five innings he allowed 11 hits and seven runs, walking one and striking out four.

JM Long and Alex Murphy led the Hawks’ 15-hit assault with three hits each. Long drove in three runs, and Murphy one. Brock Bearden and Brenton Clark had a double and single each. Bearden drove in two runs. Alex Galvan also had two hits and drove in a run. Tucker Anderson had a run-scoring double, and Travler Couch contributed a single.

“We obviously didn’t get the result we wanted tonight,” said L-E coach Zach Fowler. “Hats off to Pleasant Grove. They went back to work after we beat them in the first round, and have improved at a higher rate than us. That means we need to get back to work, and I believe our kids will answer the challenges. It will be a fun race for the rest of district.”

Nate Moore, Bryce Blackwell and Braylon Blair had the Leopards’ only hits. Bellatti drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
