TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Arkansas Civil Service Commission will elect a new chairman of the commission at their next regularly scheduled meeting on May 3 at 4:30 p.m.
The commission will also elect a new secretary.
The commission meeting will take place at the Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department located at 416 East 3rd Street in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Other action items on the agenda include Texarkana Arkansas Police Department chief Kristi Bennett’s requests for approval to continue under emergency hiring for probationary police officer until the next entrance exam can be scheduled. The department is seeking to extend the probationary period for new hires from 12 months to 18 months.
TAPD is also seeking to set a promotional examination test exam date for the ranks of captain, lieutenant, and sergeant.
The police department is also seeking permission and approval to use standards and associates for police promotional exams due to Dr. Tom Jordan’s retirement from prepping and proctoring the promotional exams for the department. Doing so will require the purchase of additional test reading materials for the ranks of captain, lieutenant, and sergeant.
The Texarkana Fire Department will seeek permission and approval for a firefighter entrance exam on Oct. 16 and firefighter promotional exams for the rank of fire battalion chief, fire captain, and fire engineer on Oct. 23. The commission normally administers and supervises both test examinations.
TAPD chief Bennett will provide a briefing to the commission, as will TAFD chief David L. Fletcher.
Civil Service Commission meetings are held the first Monday in May as per Arkansas state statute 14-51-204.
