FRISCO ROUGHRIDERS – W, 9-6 VS. MIDLAND
Double-A Central, South Division (2-0, 1st, – GB)
Frisco plated 9 unanswered runs in its come-from-behind 9-6 victory over Midland on Wednesday night to snag a 2-0 lead in the season-opening 6-game series. LF Bubba Thompson brought home a pair of runs in the 3rd on his 2nd triple in as many games, cutting into an early 5-0 deficit. A 4-run rally in the 5th inning capped by a 2-run double from 3B Sherten Apostel put the ‘Riders in front for good. CF J.P. Martinez (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, BB, 2 R) and DH Steele Walker (2-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R) each tallied extra-base knocks as part of multi-hit showings, with Martinez adding his 3rd stolen base of the young campaign. Starter LHP Jake Latz (ND, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 5 R-4 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) was charged with 4 earned runs in his 2.1 IP of work despite allowing just one hit. RHP Stephen Villines (W, 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R) recorded 3 strikeouts over 2.2 SHO IP in relief to earn the win. RHP Alex Speas (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) fanned 3 of 6 batters faced, while RHP Blake Bass (2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R-ER) picked up his 1st save of 2021.
HICKORY CRAWDADS – L, 4-8 AT GREENSBORO
High-A East, South Division (1-1, T3rd, 1.0 GB)
Hickory was held to just 4 hits in its 4-8 defeat at Greensboro last night, the first, and currently only, loss suffered by a TEX minor league affiliate in 2021. DH Blaine Crime (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) opened the scoring for the Crawdads with a solo home run (1) in the 2nd inning, as he is now 5-for-8 to open the campaign. 2B Justin Foscue doubled in the 4th for his 1st professional hit, eventually scoring on a bases-loaded walk by 3B Frainyer Chavez, who worked a pair of free passes on the night. LHP Cole Ragans (3.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R-ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR) saw his 1st official action since 2017 in the start for Hickory, taking no decision in what was also his debut at the High-A level. LHP Tyler Thomas (L, 3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R-ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) and RHP Jesus Linarez (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R-2 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO) each allowed runs in multi-inning relief outings to seal the loss for the Crawdads.
DOWN EAST WOOD DUCKS – W, 8-7 AT KANNAPOLIS

The Woodies squeaked out an 8-7 victory at Kannapolis on Wednesday night after jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the game’s first 2 frames. CF Evan Carter (2-for-4, BB, 2 R, 2 SB) led off the contest with a single for his 1st hit as a pro, and proceeded to steal 2nd and 3rd base prior to scoring on a wild pitch. Down East would go on to force an early exit of Cannon Ballers starter Jared Kelley in the opening inning, scoring 4 runs on 2 walks and 2 hits, including an RBI triple by LF Marcus Smith (2-for-4, RBI, BB, R). RHP Abdiel Mendoza (3.0 IP, 2 H, 3 SO), RHP Nick Starr (W, 1.0 IP, 0 H, 3 SO) and RHP Spencer Mraz (SV, 1.0 IP, 0 H, 3 SO) combined for 9 K’s over 5.0 SHO IP after starter RHP Wyatt Sparks (ND, 2.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R-ER) was roughed up for 6 runs (all earned) in his season debut. After being held without a run since the 5th, the Wood Ducks snapped a 7-7 tie in the 9th as DH Xavier Valentin singled with 2 outs and scored when SS Keyber Rodriguez reached base on a throwing error – one of 4 on the night by Kannapolis.
