The Arkansas State Police is investigating a suspected homicide that took place on May 6 at the Brinkley Housing Authority Office.
State police say that the Brinkley Police Department requested their assistance for special agents of the state police’s criminal investigation division to lead the investigation.
Police say that 33-year-old Bernard Pearson was shot just before 6:00 p.m. while on the housing authority office parking lot at 418 Chicago Street. Police say that Pearson was alive upon arrival, but later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby Forrest City hospital.
Agents of the criminal investigation division say that a 26-year-old Fayetteville man surrendered to local police, and he was interviewed by state police. At the request of the Monroe County prosecuting attorney, the suspect continues to be held while the investigation is continuing.
Pearson’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where a manner and cause of death will be determined.
