TEXARKANA — The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men at a Hooks convenience store for possession of a controlled substance charges.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46-year-old Calvin Dewayne Huey of Hooks and 41-year-old Patrick Neal Sullivan of Texarkana Sunday for Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) Over 4 Grams and Under 200 Grams and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Xanax) over 3 Grams and Under 28 Grams.

The sheriff’s office says that a sheriff’s deputy noticed two individuals at the Paradise Convenience store at 580 Lone Star Parkway in Hooks. The individuals were in a vehicle and “smelled strongly of marijuana,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The two men went inside the store and seemed to be avoiding contact with law enforcement, the sheriff’s office says. The deputy called someone inside the store and discovered that the men were inside observing the deputy’s movements as he fueled up his patrol vehicle.

The sheriff’s office says Sullivan and Huey exited the vehicle and started back towards the convenience store with Huey carrying two bags. When the deputy called out to the men, Sullivan stopped to talk with him. Huey did not respond and kept walking inside the store, the sheriff’s office says.

Two other deputies followed Huey into the store where they saw him throw the bags across the floor, the sheriff’s office says. The bags were retrieved and both subjects detained. The sheriff’s office says that the bags contained a large quantity of methamphetamine, Xanax, ecstasy, marijuana, and digital scales. Sullivan also had $3,072.00, the sheriff’s office says.

Sullivan and Huey were arrested and booked into the Bi-State Jail. Their bond has been set at $50,000 for the methamphetamine charge and $5,000 each for the Xanax charge.
