TEXARKANA — The Texas Workforce Commission awarded Texarkana College with $475,000 in funding in a check presentation on Tuesday at the campus of Texarkana College in Texarkana.
The funds come from two grant sources: JET Grant and Skills Development Fund Grant.
The JET Grant will help Texarkana College purchase and install equipment to provide associate degree nursing students and licensed vocational nursing students with training to support theoretical and clinical nursing knowledge and skills. The funding for this grant $187,499.
The SDF grant will provide funds for training in response to the direct needs of the COVID-19 lockdowns. Training will target business partners retooling business processes to respond to the need of such related necessities, as well as those businesses that are retooling to provide continuing employment to employees. Around $2,000 will be made available per qualifying participant.
Eligible industries for the grant include, but are not limited to, medical, healthcare, critical infrastructure, telecommunications, hospitality, information technology systems, financial, defense, food and agriculture, transportation and logistics, energy, water, and wastewater. The funding for this grant is $287,500.
Texarkana College hosted an in-person ceremony in the Ledwell Workforce Training Center to accept the funds with Texas Workforce Commissioner Aaron Demerson in attendance.
