ROUND ROCK EXPRESS – L, 4-3 AT EL PASO

Triple-A West, East Division (25-20, 2nd, -1.5 GB)

Today’s Probable Starter: LHP Brock Burke

The Express was defeated 4-3 in game 3 of 6 against the Chihuahuas on Saturday night. Starting LHP Hyeon-jong Yang took no decision in his 2nd start for Round Rock (4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R-ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR, 59 pitches/38 strikes). RHP Joe Gatto suffered his first loss and blown save of the season, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits over 1.0 IP in the 7th. RF Carl Chester (3-for-4, RBI) produced a game-high 3 hits (all singles). C John Hicks (1-for-4, RBI, R) blasted his 3rd HR of ’21, while CF Leody Taveras (1-for-4) and 3B Elier Hernandez (2-for-4, RBI) each recorded doubles. LF Delino DeShields (2-for-4, BB) swiped two bags, adding to his season total of 8 SB.

 

FRISCO ROUGHRIDERS – W, 5-4 VS SAN ANTONIO

Double-A Central, South Division (31-16, 1st, +8.0 GA)

Today’s Probable Starter: RHP A.J. Alexy

The RoughRiders clinched their 9th straight win and 2nd walk-off victory in as many nights on Saturday against the Missions. 3B Josh Jong (1-for-4, 3 RBI) connected for 3-run HR in the bottom of the 1st, his 3rd long ball in 9 G with Frisco this season. Starting RHP Cole Winn racked up 7 strikeouts over 5.0 SHO IP (ND, 1 H, 1 BB, 82 pitches/50 strikes). San Antonio batters went 1-for-16 against the 21-year-old Winn, dropping his opp. BA on the season to .113 (16-141), lowest among MiLB qualifiers. Trailing by one run in the 9th, CF Bubba Thompson (1-for-3, RBI) doubled to plate C Matt Whatley and even the score, 4-4. On that same play, 2B Jax Biggers (2-for-4) was awarded home plate due to an interference error, notching the game-winning run.

 

HICKORY CRAWDADS – W, 8-5 VS BOWLING GREEN

High-A East, South Division (17-30, 7th, -14.0 GB)

Today’s Probable Starter: LHP Grant Wolfram

The Crawdads advanced 8-5 over Bowling Green on Saturday night, picking up their second straight win. SS Jonathan Ornelas led Hickory offensively, turning in the 1st multi-HR game of his professional career (3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI). CF Kellen Strahm (1-for-3, 2 RBI, SB) and LF Miguel Aparicio (1-for4, 2 RBI) each lifted 2-run HRs of their own. Starting LHP Avery Weems earned the win (2-2) in his 1st quality start of the season (6.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R-ER, 0 BB, 9 SO, 3 HR, 78 pitches/59 strikes). His strikeouts and innings totals were both season highs, and now has 28 SO against 2 BB over 4 G/GS in June.

 

DOWN EAST WOOD DUCKS – W, 14-2 VS CAROLINA

Low-A East, Central Division (26-20, 2nd, -2.5 GB)

Today’s Probable Starter: RHP Mason Englert

The Woodies rolled the Carolina MudCats, 14-2, on Saturday night behind a 9-run first inning. 3B Thomas Saggese (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI) connected for Down East’s lone HR in the game on a 2-R blast in the 7th, his 3rd long ball of the season. Saggese, who also plated season-high 4 RBI last night, is slashing .245/.362/.490/.852 (12-49) over 17 G this month. C Cody Freeman (game-high 3 hits) and LF Alejandro Osuna (1-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB) combined to reach base 6 times. The Wood Ducks amassed 6 stolen bases, with CF Jayce Easley (1-for-4, BB, 2 SB) increasing his 2021 steals total to 24, T2ndmost in Low-A East. Starter RHP Nick Krauth (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R-ER) picked up his 1st win of the season (1-2, 3.44 ERA). RHP Marc Church (2.0 IP, 4 SO) and LHP Joshua Javier (1.0 IP, 3 SO) linked up to fire 3.0 SHO IP out of the Wood Ducks’ bullpen.
