Today’s Probable Starter: OFF DAY

The Express lost a late lead in Tuesday’s 11-9 loss to Sugar Land. RHP Ryder Ryan allowed 4 runs in the top of the 9th to take the blown save and loss. The heart of the RR order – C Yohel Pozo (2-for-6, 2B, 2 RBI), CF Leody Taveras (2-for-4, RBI, BB, SB), and 1B Curtis Terry (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) – combined to drive in 5 of the team’s 9 runs. Terry is batting .339/.417/.629/1.046 in last 17 G and ranks among league leaders in RBI (T7th, 40), HR (T8th, 13), and H (8th, 59). Taveras has a .308 BA (16-52) over his last 13 G. Pozo has 13 RBI in his last 11 G and upped his season slash to .288/.301/.523/.824.

The RoughRiders were shut out 3-0 on Tuesday night in the series opener against the Travelers. Starter LHP Jake Latz suffered his first loss of the season despite a quality start (6.0 IP, 2 R-ER, 9 SO). Latz is averaging 12.7 strikeouts per 9 innings (61 K’s in 43.1 IP) thru 11 G/9 GS. Arkansas quieted Frisco’s offense, holding them to only 4 hits on the night. DH Melvin Novoa doubled for the ‘Riders only extra-base hit, as the club went 0-for-6 w/ RISP.

HICKORY CRAWDADS – W, 8-0 AT WINSTON-SALEM

High-A East, South Division (22-33, 7th, -13.0 GB)

Today’s Probable Starter: RHP Seth Nordlin

The Crawdads rolled to an 8-0 win over the Dash on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem. 1B Blaine Crim belted his team-leading 8th home run, a 2-run blast to open the scoring in the 4th. Crim finished with 3 RBI and also leads the team in that category with 37 on the season, as he is batting .424 (14-33) during his current 6-G hit streak with multiple hits in 4 of 5 G in July. Starter LHP Cole Ragans (3.0 IP, 0 R) and reliever RHP Justin Slaten (W, 6.0 IP, 0 R) combined on the shutout. Ragans has allowed 3-or-fewer ER in all 10 starts this season with a 3.25 ERA and .217 opp. BA.

 

DOWN EAST WOOD DUCKS – W, 9-7 AT FAYETTEVILLE

Today’s Probable Starter: RHP Wyatt Sparks

Down East rallied for a 9-7 victory over Fayetteville on Tuesday, improving to 21-9 on the road. DH Luisangel Acuna had a career night, going 5-for-5 with a HR, 2B, 3 RBI, and 2 R. The 19-year-old has been on a tear since the start of June, batting .361/.431/.546/.977 (19-108) with 3 HR and 21 RBI in 29 G over that span. Each of the Woodies’ top 3 hitters in the order went deep, as 2B Keithron Moss (solo) and 1B Dustin Harris (2-R) also homered. Acuna and Moss hit back-to-back HRs in the 7th inning to give Down East a 9-7 lead after Fayetteville had scored 5 unanswered runs to tie the contest.

 

ACL RANGERS – L, 6-4 VS ACL ROYALS BLUE

Arizona Complex League West (1-5, 7th, -3.5 GB)

Today’s Probable Starter: OFF DAY

The ACL Rangers lost to the ACL Royals Blue last night, 6-4. 1B Sam Huff (2-for-4, 2 2B) played his 5th game on rehab assignment with the club’s Rookie-level affiliate. He is 4-for-11 with a HR, 2 2B, and 2 RBI in his last 3 G. 2B Justin Foscue (0-for-3) also began a rehab stint last night. CF Angel Aponte went 2-for-4 with a 2B and 2 RBI out of the leadoff spot, and he has hits in 4 straight at .500 (9-18). Starter RHP Damian Mendoza took the loss (2.2 IP, 4 R-ER).
