AUSTIN, Texas — Texas baseball assistant coach Sean Allen has been named the D1Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday.
Allen, the Longhorns’ pitching coach and recruiting coordinator, coached the Texas pitching staff to the nation’s best ERA at 2.93. He also tutored first team All-American and 32nd overall MLB Draft pick Ty Madden.
In the first full season with Allen as pitching coach in 2021, his staff produced Texas’ best ERA since 2014 and had the most strikeouts (556) and lowest batting average against (.215) since 2011.
Several Longhorn pitchers received postseason awards, including Madden being named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year. Madden was also joined by Tristan Stevens as members of the All-Big 12 First Team. Pete Hansen, Aaron Nixon and Tanner Witt also landed on a series of Freshman All-America teams.
In addition to Madden being selected in the MLB Draft, pitchers Cole Quintanilla (9th round) and Kolby Kubichek (18th round) were picked.
After serving three seasons as the Texas hitting coach, Allen made the move to the pitching side prior to the 2020 season. As hitting the Longhorns hitting coach, Allen coach Kody Clemens who was named ABCA National Player of the Year in 2018.
