TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) says they are investigating a possible armed robbery that occurred Thursday night at around 7:30 p.m.

Police say that a 35-year-old man was shot in an alleged armed robbery. Police say that two armed men appeared to have attempted the robbery, and were seen leaving on foot south on Belt Road. Police say they couldn’t find the suspects. The man was transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital.

According to police, they did arrest Sherrod Dawson for tampering with evidence after officers allege they saw him pick up two cell phones and two boxes containing several bags of what appeared to be marijuana from where the victim was laying. Police allege that Dawson, who is one of the victim’s brothers, was trying to hide them. Police also say he had two traffic warrants. Police booked Dawson in the Bi-State Jail and his bond is currently $10,620.

A second brother, Jerald Hopkins Jr., was also arrested on the scene after investigators recognized him as an individual with an outstanding felony warrant for manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance. His bond is also $50,000.

Police are still investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the TTPD at 903-798-3116 or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
