Texas High golfers seventh at prestigious Bart Granger Invitational in Fort Worth

Texas High was represented by Thomas Curry, Jack Wilson, Jackson Patterson, John D. Patterson and Jordan Crouch at the annual Bart Granger Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas High’s golf team tied for seventh place in the annual Bart Granger Invitational at Pecan Valley Golf Courses.

The Tigers posted a 54-hole total of 875 to tie Class 6A Southlake Carroll. That score was an incredible 40 shots back of  Hamilton, Ariz. Houston Memorial posted Saturday’s low round of 282 to place second at 842. Highland Park was third at 849.

The event attracted 52 schools, making it the largest high school golf tournament in Texas.

Texas High was the only school among the top 10 teams to improve its score each round. The Tigers shot 294, 291 and 290.

“This is a great start to the year,” said THS coach Ryan Huntze. “Playing 54 holes in two days is tough. I’m proud of how we were able to improve every round.”

Bart Granger Invite attracts 52 schools

Preston Stout of JJ Pearce in Dallas won medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 202.

Texas High’s Thomas Curry tied for ninth place with scores of 71, 70 and 68 for 209. Teammate Jack Wilson tied for 11th place with 71, 71, 68 for 210.

Jackson Patterson had the Tigers’ third best score with rounds of 76, 76 and 74 for 226. John D. Patterson was the team’s fourth golfer with scores of 76, 75 and 81 for 232. Jordan Crouch made a big contribution in the second round with a 75 after shooting 89 in the first round. He finished with an 80 for 244.

Texas High’s Fall Season continues Oct. 8-9 with the Jay Brewer Memorial Tiger Classic at Texarkana Country Club.
