TEXARKANA, Ar. — Texas High junior Thomas Curry posted a 54-hole score of 11-under-par 205 Saturday, leading the host Tigers to the championship in The Jay Brewer Texas High Tiger Classic at Texarkana Country Club.
Curry, who had the low round of the tournament with a 67 in the first round, shot a two-under 70 Saturday. Texas High’s final team total was 886, just two shots better than Trinity Christian Academy of Dallas. Jesuit Prep placed third at 890. The prestigious event attracted 18 schools, mostly Class 6A and 5A.
“I’m very pleased, it was a roller coaster ride Saturday,” said THS coach Ryan Huntze. “We were fortunate to come out on top, but expectations are always high for us.
“Thomas Curry is meeting and surpassing expectations. I’d put him up against any junior golfer in America.”
John D. Patterson was second for the Tigers after shooting a 3-over 75 for a 219 total. Jack Wilson also shot 75 for 225, and Jackson Patterson posted 79 for 237. Jordan Crouch was Texas High’s fifth player with an 87 for 253. Will Davis and Evan Sutton competed for medalist.
