Jojo Bailey provided two carries for two yards. Spencer Danner rushed five times for 15 yards. Kaden McFadden had a carry for two yards. Keilin Benton had two rushes for eight yards.

“Proud of our program,” Coach Josh Gibson said after the game. “Week 4 at Silsbee, weren’t many fans there. I told the kids, I said, ‘Hey, man, some of these people have turned out the lights on us and I hate that for you guys, but we got to dig deep and build back, and we can go be special.’ And what they’ve done is they stayed the course, they stayed together, they kept fighting, and they did exactly that.

“We played four rounds deep with this group. Our senior class didn’t win a game in middle school. And, so, for them to experience this — you talk about growth, not just this year, but what they’ve been able to do for five years and how many of our seniors out there, it’s special to watch them lead and then the young pups fight. It’s been a heck of a season. It didn’t end the way we wanted it to.”

The Buckeyes scored 29 unanswered points until Pleasant Grove got on the board with a Stewart touchdown run with 52 seconds left in the third quarter.

Brandon Tennison completed 14 passes on 19 attempts for 268 yards and four touchdowns along with two carries for 17 yards.

Ladaylon Jackson was the leading ball carrier for Gilmer with three carries for 32 yards. Rohan Fluellan caught four catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. Parker Gilow caught five passes for 81 yards and two scores.

The Hawks finish with 9-5 on the season as the Buckeyes improve to 13-1 and their postseason continues.
